Northern Virginia Weather: When Will It Warm Up?

When will things warm up again? At least a little bit? Northern Virginia's weather forecast calls for better days ahead — but not yet.

STERLING, VA — Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast offers no respite from this recent spate of bitterly cold weather. In fact, it's expected to get worse. That's the word from the National Weather Service's satellite center in Sterling, which has issued a wind chill advisory from 6 p.m. today through noon Saturday. Wind gusts of more than 25 mph are expected.

And as the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang points out: "With wind chills bottoming around -10 or worse, and only rising to near zero during the day, hypothermia and frostbite are serious concerns until perhaps Sunday."

Come Monday, however, temperatures are expected to finally climb above freezing and perhaps even flirt with 40 degrees. Even so, that's also when we could expect more precipitation — this time in the form of a wintry mix of rain and sleet. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:
