Northern Virginia Weather: Work Week Gets Better And Better

STERLING, VA—After a couple of days featuring clouds, sporadic thunderstorms and relatively high humidity, the work week takes a welcome turn for Northern Virginia residents. Remnants of Hurricane Florence will be long by then, and sunshine will rule with nightly lows actually in the 60s.

That's the word from the National Weather Service's area outpost in Sterling, as well as other area forecasting outlets. Channel 4's Lauryn Ricketts says "any thunderstorms could bring a small chance of tornadoes," with the operative word being "small." Highs Wednesday-Friday and into Saturday are expected to be in the low 80s. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Sunday Night: Scattered showers before 11pm, then a chance of showers after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 79. Southeast wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 83.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
