Northern Virginia Weather: Work Week Switcheroo

STERLING, VA — Although the rain and the wind gusts will stick around through Monday morning, Northern Virginia's work week is expected to offer plenty of sun and moderate temperatures, according to the National Weather Service's outpost in Sterling. In fact, not until Friday night is there another chance of rain — and a slim one, at that.

Most of the rain should move out by the end of the Monday commute, after which the the rest of the week will feature fall sun. Wednesday's clouds aren't expected to linger. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight (Sunday): Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then rain between 9pm and 3am, then showers after 3am. Low around 42. Breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday: A chance of showers before 9am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 59. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. West wind 6 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 69.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.
