Northern Virginia Weather: Work Week System Shock?
Will Sunday's relatively damp weather be a harbinger of what to expect during the upcoming week? Depends, says the National Weather Service.
STERLING, VA — OK, folks. If you've been watering those lawns the past couple of weeks because of the odd recent spate of hot weather and unyielding sunshine, the upcoming work week should be enough to persuade you to turn off the outdoor faucets. That's the word from the National Weather Service and it's auxiliary headquarters in Sterling.
Clouds and a chance of daily showers are expected to be the rule the next several days, with Tuesday looking like the one day with a bit of sun making its presence felt. Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Columbus Day: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. High near 84. South wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
