Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: One Great Day

STERLING, VA — The opening day of the weekend pretty much will be a washout, thanks largely to the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy. Sunday, on the other hand is expected to be gorgeous. That's the word from the local branch of the National Weather Service in Sterling.

Friday night has an 80 percent chance of rain, along with heavy gusts. Saturday? More rain, some it quite heavy, and more gusts. But things clear out Saturday night, clearing the way for a mostly sunny Sunday.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 74. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11am and 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 89. West wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.
