Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: Records Could Fall

Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast isn't one that's likely to warm the heart, even with a smattering of snow here and there.

STERLING, VA — Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast can be aptly described in two words: cold and colder. That's the word from various weather-watching agencies, including the National Weather Service branch in Sterling. And just for giggles and grins, a lot of folks woke up this morning to a light coating of snow.

However, as the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang points out, ". . .there’s a decent chance this pre-dawn zone of snow is the biggest part of this event locally. While there’s still some activity on radar, most of it is in northern Maryland or north at this time, and there isn’t a whole lot to the west still to come through."

Saturday is expected to be the "warmest" day of the New Year's Even weekend, with highs in the mid 30s. Sunday and Monday offer highs in the low to mid 20s, with lows dipping into the teens along with wind gusts of at least 20 mph. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:
