Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: A Relative Thaw
Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast calls for a relative thaw in the freezer-like conditions, and a good amount of sun should help.

STERLING, VA — Just when things began to get really cold, Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast arrives with a reminder that we don't live in, say, Green Bay, Wis., where once the weather gets cold, it stays cold until around April. As it is, according to the National Weather Service's satellite center in Sterling, the weekend welcomes a relative warming trend that will grow through the week.
As for the mini-snow event that hit the area Friday afternoon before moving out, Reagan National Airport's total was 0.2 inches; Dulles International Airport, 0.1, according to the National Weather Service. The next possibility of precipitation is Sunday night, and there's only a 20 percent chance with highs in the upper 30.
Highs both Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the mid to upper 40s under partly to mostly sunny skies. After that, consider this from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "The pattern across the country remains active and changeable on the whole, so any forecast outside a few days is somewhat low-confidence. For now, the days leading up to Christmas seem relatively tame, at least around here."
