Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: Snow Update

STERLING, VA—A relatively mild weekend is in the cards for the Northern Virginia area, and snow chances for Sunday night appear to be dwindling. That's the word from the National Weather Service outlet and Sterling and other regional forecasts.

Following a clear and relatively Friday night with gusts up to 24 mph, Saturday offers plenty of sunshine with highs around 50 and lows just a tick below freezing. Sunday should be slightly cooler but still with a decent amount of sun.

And Sunday night and the potential for snow? According to WRC/Channel 4, "the overall track is still trending south of us. Snow chances look limited but greater for Fredericksburg and Southern Maryland." So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30. West wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 49. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Sunday: A chance of rain after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Light and variable wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night: A chance of rain before 1am, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. North wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
