Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: Some Sun For Dad
The Northern Virginia weekend weather forecast offers some hope for sunshine on Father's Day; Saturday, not so much: NWS

STERLING, VA — Because Father's Day is Sunday and not Saturday, dads of all ilk will be spared the washout that's expected for the bulk of Saturday. But there's slightly better news for the following day. The sunshine is expected to return, despite the ever-present threat of late-afternoon thunderstorms, according to the area branch of the National Weather Service.
Saturday, however, is a different story. There's a 70 percent chance of rain under cloudy skies. And inasmuch that the highs will reach the mid 80s, things could get a bit muggy. Sunday's highs are expected to be the upper 90, with summer-like breezes.

Cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 9am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 85. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Sunday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. South wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
