Northern Virginia Weekend Weather: Waiting For The Window

STERLING, VA — With sunshine pretty much having taken a siesta the past few days, the chances of rousing those rays over the weekend aren't exactly encouraging for Northern Virginia's weekend — save for a relatively brief window Sunday. That's the word from the National Weather Service and its satellite headquarters in Sterling.

Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy with periods of drizzle through noon and highs reaching the mid 70s. Sunday? That's your best hope following a cloudy Saturday night. Tonight: Areas of drizzle with a chance of rain. Patchy fog after 9pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 61. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Areas of drizzle with a slight chance of rain before 9am, then areas of drizzle between 9am and 1pm. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 76. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Light and variable wind.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday: A chance of showers before 9am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 43.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 64.
