Man Dead Following Officer Involved Shooting
Shooting involving a city police officer following a traffic stop, according to Virginia State Police.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The man shot by a Fredericksburg City Police officer during a struggle Tuesday afternoon has died, according to Virginia State Police.
The man's name will not be released until next of kin has been notified. His remains will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination and autopsy.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the officer was pulling over a 1999 Mercury Cougar at the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Braehead Drive when he reportedly recognized the driver as a wanted subject.

The driver reportedly refused to comply with the officer's commands and an altercation ensued, according to the VSP.
The suspect put the car in drive and dragged the officer approximately 600 feet before the car crashed into a ditch.

The officer and the driver continued to struggle before the suspect attempted to flee on foot. The officer was able to catch up just a few hundred feet away, when they again began to struggle.
The officer's gun went off during the struggle, striking the suspect in the leg. The man was being treated at Mary Washington Hospital for several hours before he died, according to the VSP.
