Deputy Shoots, Kills Man In Fredericksburg Domestic Abuse Case

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Spotslyvlania County Sheriff's deputy was put on administrative leave after he fatally wounded a 38-year-old man during a domestic disturbance incident early Sunday morning in Fredericksburg.

Deputies responded around 3:16 a.m. to the 10400 block of Spotswood Drive for the report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. Upon their arrival, the deputies saw a man pointing a firearm at a woman. One of those deputies fired his department-issued firearm at the man, who was struck by the round, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

The deputies began administering first aid to the man until the arrival of Spotsylvania Fire-EMS personnel. The man was pronounced dead on the scene and the woman was not physically injured, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Placing the deputy who fired his weapon on administrative leave, the Sheriff's Office asked the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation assist in the investigation the incident.

As of 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office had not released the names of the deputy or the suspect in this case.
