A Stafford County Sheriff's Office deputy administered the drug, which neutralizes the effects of heroin.
STAFFORD, VA — A man suffering from a suspected overdose was revived by a Stafford County deputy Wednesday night by using Narcan, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
Narcan is a life-saving drug that neutralizes heroin/opiate overdoses, and it's being used by more and more police departments across the country.
In this case, the deputy responded at 10:50 p.m. to a report of possible cardiac arrest at a McDonald's at 545 Ferry Road. Police say an responsive man was lying in the parking lot, and that they saw needle marks on his arm consistent with heroin use.

At about 5:55 p.m., the deputy administered a single-use application of Narcan that revived the 30-year-old, who was taken to an area hospital.
Law enforcement agencies across the country have been training and equipping their personnel with Narcan in response to an increase in opiate overdoses nationwide. Fatal overdoses of heroin have nearly tripled nationwide since 2010.
