Phone Scam Solicits Donations For Fredericksburg Police

The calls seek donations for Fredericksburg Police but the department says it doesn't solicit donations over the phone.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A phone scam apparently is making the rounds among Fredericksburg residents, and this one has nothing to do with the notorious IRS phone scam.

The Fredericksburg Police Department says it has received multiple calls over the last few days from citizens asking if the department solicits donations over the phone.

Short answer from police: "Please be advised we DO NOT call and solicit donations and we will not send an officer to your home to pick up said donation."
