Phony Doctor Tries to Buy Jag, Arrested in Stafford: Police

Stafford County Sheriff's Office says the Florida man aroused suspicions from dealership employees when an elderly woman co-signed a loan.

STAFFORD, VA — A Florida man who tried to financially con both a car dealership and a distant relative he initially said was his mother was arrested Friday after trying to buy a $35,000 Jaguar at Kargar Motors in the 3300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Malachi Love-Robinson, 19, was charged with false statements to obtain credit, obtaining money by false pretenses and identity fraud.

According to police, the dealership called them after a young man and an elderly woman showed up and wanted to buy the sports car, with the woman as co-signer, with the whole deal appearing suspicious.

He completed a credit application, and the dealership told him they'd contact him once it had been approved. That's when the googled his name and found he had been charged with fraud in Florida for practicing medicine without a license.

So police were called, who were waiting to interview Love-Robinson upon his return. When he did, they talked both with him and the elderly woman, who told them she wasn't his mother and that she had not agreed to co-sign for the car or fund any other purchases.
