Pilot Dies In Plane Crash Near Shannon Airport In Spotsylvania
A 78-year-old Ruther Glen pilot died after a single-engine plane crashed near Shannon Airport Tuesday morning in Spotsylvania County.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A 78-year-old Ruther Glen man died Tuesday morning after a single-engine airplane crashed near Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at about 11:05 a.m. on July 14 near the airport.
According to state police, the aircraft had one person on board. The pilot, identified as Rowland A. Babcock Jr., 78, of Ruther Glen, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Federal Agencies Investigating
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to assist with the investigation into what caused the crash.
Virginia State Police did not immediately release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the type of aircraft involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
