Police: Burglars Breaking Windows for Purses

Several reports in past few days, according to Fredericksburg City Police.

Burglars are targeting purses left in cars, and they’re breaking windows to get to them, according to Fredericksburg City Police.

Sometime between 11 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. Thursday, a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church on Stafford Avenue reported that a car window had been smashed and her purse was stolen from the back seat.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, a patron at Dixon Park, 1300 Dixon St., reported an unknown person broke a window on her vehicle and stole her purse from the front seat.

It was the same store Wednesday night at the Planet Fitness on Jefferson Davis Highway. Two members reported their car windows had been broken and purses were stolen while they were inside.

The only case where suspects were identified came Thursday afternoon at Home Depot on Gateway Boulevard. A victim reported seeing a black female break the rear window of her vehicle and grab a bag from the back seat.

The suspect reportedly left in a black Dodge Charger. There was also a black male and a white female with the offender, according to police.

The man was described as 6’2” with a thin build and he was wearing bright orange shorts. The woman appeared to be wearing a long dark wig.
