A Fredericksburg man is in custody and accused of evading police in a stolen car in Stafford County.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Fredericksburg man is accused of stealing a car and leading police on a chase through Stafford County on Wednesday morning. The man, who police identified as Wadah Mahgoud, already had an outstanding warrant in Fredericksburg.

At 1 a.m. on Wednesday, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 95 after noticing the vehicle did not have a license plate displayed. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped up and attempted to evade the police, according to a news release from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle attempted to exit I-95 at the Centreport Parkway exit, but crashed through the guardrail and into a light pole. After the vehicle stopped, Mahgoud fled toward Enon Road, according to authorities.
