Police: Increased Work Zone Patrols Begin Monday
Stafford County Sheriff's Office asks motorists to heed National Work Zone Awareness Week.

The week of March 23 through March 27 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This year’s theme, provided by the Federal Highway Administration, is “Expect the Unexpected.”
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it will have additional units patrolling the multiple active work zones that affect everyone living and traveling through Stafford. The sheriff’s office will be increasing enforcement, helping to ensure that those men and women who are working on road repair projects or road development are working in a safe environment.

More than 40,000 people are injured nationwide each year as a result of work zone crashes, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Motorists can keep work zones safe by slowing down, not tailgating and avoiding distractions such as text messaging or talking on a cell phone.
“Working together, all of us can help reduce or eliminate work zone crashes or fatalities,” Sheriff Charles Jett said in the statement. “Something as simple as just slowing down and paying extra attention in a work zone area can make a real difference.”
