STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A police dog went missing on Tuesday in Stafford County, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

The dog, a bloodhound named Ruby, was located safely. Authorities said she went missing near Guy Lane and Mountain View Road.

The sheriff's office did not say what circumstances led to Ruby's disappearance.

Ruby joined the Stafford County Sheriff's Office in March 2021. A trained bloodhound, Ruby helps authorities find suspects and missing people.

Ruby is the first bloodhound to serve with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. She was gifted to the sheriff's office by a police chief in South Carolina.
