Police: Suspect Identified in Two Fredericksburg Area Robberies
Warrants issued for Wayne Maurice Byrd. Law enforcement still seeking suspect.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office today, Nov. 7, obtained warrants for the arrest of a suspect wanted for two bank robberies, one in Spostsylvania and one in Stafford, on Nov. 3.
Wayne Maurice Byrd, 61 of Stockbridge, Ga., allegedly entered BB&T bank on Warrenton Road in Stafford at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3 and demanded money from an employee. The suspect had a gun in his waistband. He was given an unknown amount of money and left the bank.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Byrd allegedly entered Union First Bank in Spotsylvania, displayed the gun in his waistband and demanded money from the teller. He left, again, with an unknown amount of cash.

“Multiple law enforcement agencies are working together to locate this criminal,” states Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett and Spotsylvania County Sheriff Roger Harris. “We appreciate the participation and cooperation of the community and witnesses in helping us identify this lawless individual. Their detailed information has been most helpful.”
Byrd is a person of interest in one other bank robbery in Spotslyvania and two others in Stafford on Sept. 30.
