Police: Two Arrested in Counterfeiting Scheme Involving Children

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department has arrested two people wanted for an interstate counterfeiting fraud scheme involving children, according to the sheriff’s department.

Abran Renolco Woolard, 36 and Lakeia Shaunte Woolard, 24, both from North Carolina, have been charged with child neglect, counterfeiting, and obtaining money by false pretense, conspiracy, forgery, and manufacturing counterfeit currency.

Lakeia Woolard and two children she was with were caught attempting to pass off counterfeit bills at the Family Dollar at Four Mile Fork Shopping Center around 9:30 Sunday night. She and the children walked into the store, picked up a few small items and then attempted to buy them with paper money. Store employees noticed something was unusual with the money and checked it with a currency marker.

After the bills were proven to be fake, the store manager called Spotsylvania County police. Police officers detained the couple and the children while waiting for a warrant to search the Woolard’s car. Detectives searched the car after obtaining a warrant and found a printing machine used to print the counterfeit bills and several hundred dollars in fake bills.

Upon the arrest of the Woolards, Child Protective Services was contacted for the children.

Sheriff Roger Harris noted that “some excellent work was done by the store employees, our Deputies and Detectives in stopping this criminal activity and rescuing the children from a very risky situation.”
