Politics: Virginia GOP Fights Rising Democratic Control

In the crazy, mixed-up world of Virginia politics neither Republican nor Democrat can feel safe.

There are no shoo-ins in Virginia politics anymore, according to The Washington Post. We’re living in a swing state where neither Republicans nor Democrats can feel safe come election time.

Five months after the defeat of Republican House majority leader Eric Cantor, reports The Post, Virginia House Speaker William Howell (R-Stafford) fights against the same fate.

Cantor and Howell aren’t the only Virginia Republicans to take a hit; Democrats won all three statewide contests last year against their conservative counterparts. The losses have set Republicans “working furiously to position themselves to compete in the 2016 presidential election,” according to The Post.

Virginia’s political world, as said by The Post, has become “topsy-turvy.”
