From schools to public transportation, Presidents Day means schedule changes are in store for Fredericksburg. Here's what you should know.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Presidents Day on Monday is a federal holiday, and that means some closures and slight schedule changes are ahead for Fredericksburg residents.
All Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed on Presidents Day.
If you need to run to the DMV or take care of any other government business, you may find the doors locked and lights off.

Most states, including Virginia, make Presidents Day a holiday for workers, with exceptions including those who perform essential services. Even in states that recognize Presidents Day as a holiday, not all counties and cities give workers a day off.
Banks, the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will be closed. So will the U.S. Postal Service. Unless they’re typically closed on Mondays, most retail stores will be open as usual. The same goes for restaurants and bars. Some non-retail businesses will be closed, including Patch Media.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed, schedule changes, and other things to know about Presidents Day in Fredericksburg.
City of Fredericksburg municipal offices — including City Hall and most administrative facilities — will be closed all day Monday in observance of the Presidents Day holiday. (fredericksburgva.gov)
Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, in observance of Presidents Day. All school buildings and administrative offices are closed on this date.
Central Rappahannock Regional Library (Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania/Stafford/Westmoreland): All branches closed Monday, Feb 16.
U.S. Postal Service (USPS) – Post offices closed and mail delivery suspended nationwide.
Social Security Administration Offices – In-person services closed for the day.
Federal DMV / Virginia DMV Offices – DMV and DMV Select services are closed.
Federal Offices & Services – Most non-essential federal government offices close on Presidents Day.
Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Pickup
- Curbside trash and recycling collection in Fredericksburg is not affected by the holiday — crews will run on their normal Monday routes as long as weather conditions permit. (fredericksburgva.gov)
- Yard waste or special collections follow the regular schedule unless a separate notice is issued.
Transportation
- FXBGO! transit service (Fredericksburg Regional Transit) will not operate on Monday due to the holiday. Service will resume normal schedules on Tuesday, February 17. (fredericksburgva.gov)
- Virginia Railway Express: VRE does NOT operate any service on Presidents Day (federal holiday). (vre.org)
