Purr-fect Ending for This Overnight Rescue

A call regarding a kitten crying in a storm drain ended with a safe rescue and these adorable pics.

It’ll take more than a scared kitten and a tight squeeze to keep Fredericksburg first responders from a successful rescue.

Officers responded at 1 a.m. Thursday to a call of cat crying in a storm drain at the Belmont apartment complex.

Officers called for a fire truck to remove the manhole cover, but the rescue became more complicated once an officer climbed into the drain, according to Fredericksburg Police on Facebook.

The kitten, however, was frightened and ran down a narrow, 150 foot horizontal pipe that runs to the other side of the road. The Fire Department then removed a manhole cover on the other side of the street and Officer Gilworth descended again, this time with cat food and milk.

But the cat was still too frightened to come to the officer. Firefighters sent water through the drain in hopes of chasing the cat out, and it worked.
