This week's weather forecast in Virginia starts with mostly sunny skies, but storm chances aren't far behind. Here's the timeline.

But the chance for showers will begin overnight and into Tuesday morning, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm by the time we're heading home from work Tuesday afternoon.

Things will look better Wednesday, but showers will likely return Thursday. The current forecast for next weekend suggests mostly cloudy skies with a chance for rain.
In the national forecast, the Weather Channel says it will be a week of severe weather, with tornado threats for the Midwest and the South.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind around 9 mph.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Wednesday: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 68.
Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
