Man Pleads Guilty To Store Robbery in Spotsylvania County: Report
Most prison time was suspended as part of a plea deal for a robber who held up a convenience store just outside of Fredericksburg.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A man was sentenced to 20 years, with 15 years suspended, Monday for robbing a Spotsylvania County convenience store in 2016. Matthew Allen LaClair, 30, pleaded guilty in Spotsylvania Circuit Court to the robbery, which occurred at the D-Mart convenience store on Lafayette Boulevard, just outside of Fredericksburg city limits. LaClair allegedly pointed a silver revolver at the clerk and demanded cash, the Free Lance-Star reported.
Prosecutors dropped two firearms charges and a charge of wearing a mask in public against LaClair, who will serve a five-year term, as part of the guilty plea. The robbery was recorded on a store surveillance camera.
LaClair was arrested for the robbery in February 2019. At the time of the July 2016 robbery, LaClair also was a suspect in crimes in Fredericksburg, according to the Free Lance-Star.
