FRDERICKSBURG, VA — Cool Joe is a dog who lives up to his name. The 1-year-old dog is now available for adoption through the Fredericksburg SPCA.

Cool Joe has had an eventful time at the SPCA. When he arrived at the shelter, he had a completely broken toe. Now, after a surgery and recovery, Cool Joe is back to his healthy, playful ways.

Cool Joe came to the SPCA with lameness in his front left foot. Medical staff sedated him and took x-rays.

"After getting the x-rays done, the medical team had their suspicions confirmed - one of his digits was completely broken with bone fragments loose in his toe," the SPCA said. "The toe was past the point of repair and Cool Joe received a full toe amputation."

After the surgery and recovery, SPCA staff noticed a change in Cool Joe. He was happy and energetic now that his toe was no longer bothering him.

"The wound healed beautifully, and Cool joe embraced his new, for lack of a better phrase, lobster paw-claw," the SPCA said. "After the site fully healed and sutures came out, he was cleared for normal activity again and was made available for adoption."

Cool Joe appreciated being able to join other dogs in the yards and play groups. He's only 1 year old, and still has the energy of a puppy.

Cool Joe loves hanging with other dogs, snuggling with people, and enjoying all that life has to offer.
