FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Heel, a 9-month-old dog, is available for adoption at the Fredericksburg SPCA. Though he initially struggled at the shelter, he thrived when the SPCA's clinic manager took him home to decompress with her own dog.

"He came to the Fred SPCA afraid of his own shadow and unable to take one step out of his kennel," the Fredericksburg SPCA said. "Our shelter staff knew he would do great paired with another confident dog to help bring him out of his shell and began spending extra time with him until we could find him a foster home."

Once he joined the clinic manager's home and met her dog, his confidence grew slowly before taking a major leap.

"Heel is over the moon to be out of the shelter and in a home where he feels safe," the SPCA said. "It wasn't long before this 9-month-old learned that the best spot in the house was the bed with all of the snuggly covers."

Heel has thrived with another dog to play with. Even though Heel is on the smaller side, he loves to run with the big dogs.
