Rescue Me: Penny The Sewer Cat Is Ready To Live In A Home
Penny is an 8-year-old cat with four teeth. She used to live in a sewer, but now she is available for adoption from the Fredericksburg SPCA.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Penny is an 8-year-old cat who has lived a rough life. Now, she's ready to settle down in a peaceful home, preferably with other feline friends.
Before a good Samaritan brought her to the animal shelter, Penny was living in a sewer. When she got to the SPCA, she had matter hair, fleas, ear mites, and debris in her fur.

"Staff spent hours gently brushing her, which Penny adored," the SPCA said. "If there's one way to make this feline decide to spend time with you, it's having a soft blanket and some brushie-brushie time!"
The SPCA was glad that Penny got to the shelter when she did. If left untreated, excessive fleas can lead to anemia. Volunteers also gave her multiple baths, so that she smelled less like a sewer.

"She's excited for a happy ending to her long journey and has even found new and young love in long-haired house lion Angus (featured last week). Penny seems to very much enjoy the company of Angus, and we think she would do well adopted alongside him or into a family with other felines," the SPCA said. "She adores a perch to look outside and monitor the birds, but is thankful to not be out there with them anymore!"

Penny is still being treated by the SPCA, so she is not eligible for adoption yet. Anyone interested in Penny should reach out to the SPCA by emailing matchmakers@fredspca.org to discuss the foster-to-adopt program.
