Rescue From Roof of Towne Center During Medical Emergency

Worker on the roof could not get down and had to be pulled from the roof using a "basket," according to Spotsylvania Fire officials.

First responders had to use a “basket” rescue to pull a patient from the rooftop of Spotsylvania Towne Center on Thursday, according to Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

Crews resonded at 3:15 p.m. Thursday to the shopping center. A man working on the rooftop had experience a medical emergency and couldn’t get off the roof.

The victim was initially treated on the roof. After 30 minutes, crews used a “stokes basket operation” to successfully pull the patient off the roof for transport to an area hospital.

Nine crew members were involved in the rescue, according to fire officials. There was no update on the condition of the patient.
