
Robert Morris “Rob” Jones, 84, of Fredericksburg died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 28, 1929, to Morris Cory and Dorothy Fraser Jones. He was raised in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia and then California, where he started his naval career in 1948. He received a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1962, and became a commissioned officer in December 1962.
Mr. Jones retired from active duty in 1973, continuing as a Navy civil servant until his retirement in 1988. He then worked for Kaman Sciences Corp./ITT Systems for another 15 years, retiring again in 2003. Mr. Jones served for 40 years, military and civilian, supporting the Navy’s strategic systems programs in the areas of nuclear safety, Joint DOD/DOE nuclear weapons testing, U.S./U.K. cooperative efforts and the FBM/SLBM security classification manager.

Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Fredericksburg; five children, Susan and Pamela of Eden Prairie, Minn., Richard of Mount Airy, Md., Kimberley of Washington, D.C., and Amanda of Fredericksburg; two granddaughters, Samantha and Sidney; brother Richard Jones of Camano Island, Wash.; and sister Dorothy Almquist of Boulder, Colo.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Quantico National Cemetery.
