Second Suspect Detained for Involvement in Fatal Stabbings

The suspect, a 17-year-old Spotsylvania County resident, is allegedly the brother of the first suspect detained earlier this week.

A second suspect associated with the fatal stabbings at Greenbrier Shopping Center early Sunday morning was brought into custody Wednesday, according to Fredericksburg police.

The suspect is a 17-year-old Spotsylvania County resident who is being held at the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center where he’s been charged with assault by mob. Police are also reporting the second suspect is the brother of the first suspect, a 15-year-old who has also been detained at Rappahannock since he was taken into custody on Sunday.

The stabbings occurred in the shopping center between Jay’s Lounge and Cook Out Restaurant early Sunday morning at approximately 2:10 a.m. The victims were a group of adults who were heading to Cook Out after enjoying a party at Jay’s; the suspects were a group of teenagers heading to Cook Out from a graduation party.

The two groups had no prior affiliation, but when a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, the suspects stabbed three victims before fleeing the scene. None of the victims were armed, and two have since died at Mary Washington Hospital. The third victim remains hospitalized.
