Sewage Leak Closes Port of Falmouth in Stafford

Stafford Utilities found major break in the pipe Monday transferring wastewater from Fall Run Pump Station. No evidence of contamination.

STAFFORD, VA — A sewage leak discovered late Monday upstream from the park has closed the Port of Falmouth at least through Saturday, according to Stafford County.

Officials say there's no evidence of contamination of the river at the park.

Stafford Utilities found a major break in the pipe transferring wastewater from the Fall Run Pump Station to a location near Chatham Heights Road, and the pipe has since been repaired.

Even so, precautionary testing continues to ensure the water is safe before the park reopens, tentatively set for Sunday.
