McDonald's Shooter Kills Himself; Victim Critically Hurt: Police

A Fredericksburg man who police say shot a woman at a McDonald's has taken his own life; the victim remains in critical condition.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA—A gunman who shot a woman Wednesday afternoon at a Central Park McDonald's fatally shot himself shortly before 8 p.m. as officers began to zero in on his location, according to Fredericksburg Police. He was identified as Anthony Ellis, 22, of Fredericksburg.

The woman remained in critical condition at a nearby hospital as of early Thursday afternoon. She was shot around 2 p.m. at the restaurant at 1701 Carl D. Silver Parkway. Police are continuing their investigation and have released no motives.

Griffin had been on the run since the shooting happened around 2 p.m. when the shooting was reported. He fled in a black GMC Yukon XL and then abandoned it before stealing a Chevy Silverado.

Police were tipped off that the truck appeared to be parked on Garfield Street on the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania County line. Police arrived to investigate, and shortly after 7:30 p.m., police heard a gunshot in the wooded area near Allison Street and Clay Street.

It was Ellis, and after rescue attempts failed, he was pronounced dead at 7:54 p.m.
