Shooting Outside Spotsylvania Restaurant Leaves 1 Dead On Saturday Night: Police

A man was charged with second degree murder after a shooting in the parking lot of a restaurant in Spotsylvania County, police said.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A man died on Saturday after he was shot outside of a restaurant in Spotsylvania County, police said. A suspect was arrested on Sunday morning and charged with second-degree murder.

The shooting occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the 10100 block of Patriot Highway in the Cosner Corner area. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot outside of a restaurant, according to the police report.

The victim died at the scene, police said. Authorities identified the man as 35-year-old Shawn Hastings of Spotsylvania.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said the shooting began as a dispute inside a restaurant. Witnesses said another man shot Hastings in the upper body while he was in the parking lot after exiting the restaurant.

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the suspect and his vehicle after the shooting. Authorities identified the suspect as Jesse Dean Beebout, a 34-year-old from Caroline County.

Beebout was taken into custody at his home on Sunday morning, police said. During the arrest, detectives said they recovered a firearm. They also noted that Beebout suffered a gunshot wound to the hand during the shooting.

On Sunday, Beebout was taken to a hospital in police custody to receive treatment for his injury. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one county of using a firearm in commission of a felony. When he is released from the hospital, he will be held without bond at the Rappahnnock Regional Jail.
