Shoppers Warehouse Could Be Occupied Soon

The largest vacant commercial building in Central Park is expected to be split into two businesses.

Although there is a new architectural rendering submitted to Fredericksburg's Building and Development office for the old Shoppers Food and Pharmacy buiding in Central Park, the real estate broker hasn't confirmed any changes.

"I signed a confidentiality agreement and I am not at liberty to say until the lease gets executed," said Karen Wilmer of KLNB Commercial Real Estate out of Maryland.

According to the documents submitted to the city, Christmas Tree Shops, which is a bargain store, and Buy Buy Baby, will split the 76,000-square-foot building at 1320 Carl D. Silver Parkway. The closest Christmas Tree Shops store is in Glen Allen and the closest Buy Buy Baby story is in Springfield.

Fredericksburg's Economic Development staff said they had hoped the opening of the Barnes and Noble in the old Borders building near Target would spark interest in the Shoppers Food building, which has been vacant since February 2011. The bookstore is planned to open in November 2012 after a $1.9 million interior and exterior remodeling.
