Shots Fired In Downtown Fredericksburg Leads To Arrest: Police

A Fredericksburg man faces a slew of charges after police said he fired a gunshot near Charles Street on Sunday evening.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A man is in custody after police said he fired a gunshot in the City of Fredericksburg on Sunday night, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department. Authorities said the gunshot rang out near Charles Street.

No injuries were reported in connection with the gunshot, police said. The police department did not note any property damage in their report on social media.

Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Norris Wright of Fredericksburg. Wright is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a concealed weapon, second offense, discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a firearm subject to a protective order, discharge of a firearm in public, and discharge of a firearm within the City.

Wright is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, according to the police department.

The shot rang out around 7 p.m. on Sunday near the 200 block of Charles Street, police said. Officers responded and found a man who matched the suspect description.

Officers chased the man on foot and took him into custody, according to the police report.
