Six Candidates Selected For Fredericksburg Superintendent Job
The Fredericksburg school board selected six candidates from a pool of dozens to interview for district's top position.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Out of a pool of 34 applicants, the Fredericksburg school board has selected six candidates who could possibly be the district's next superintendent. According to a report, the school board will conduct interviews Oct. 24 to choose a successor to David Melton, who retired in June.
The school board decided in June it would prefer to hire someone with a doctorate who lives in Fredericksburg, the Free Lance-Star reports. The board also preferred the candidate have teaching and public school experience, as well as held a superintendent or assistant superintendent position previously.
Fifteen current or former superintendents applied, as well as nine assistant, associate or deputy superintendents. Among them was Fredericksburg interim Superintendent Marci Catlett, who lives in the city and has served in the city school system her entire career.
