Skateboarder Hit By Vehicle Near Mountain View High School: Police
Authorities in Stafford County said a driver was charged after she hit a skateboarder in front of Mountain View High School on Thursday.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A skateboarder was hit by a car in front of Mountain View High School on Thursday morning, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.
Police only identified the skateboarder as a high school student. They were taken to a hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not life-threatening.
The sheriff's office did not identify the driver by name. Officials noted that she was charged with failure to yield.

The crash occurred around 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, as students prepared for another school day. Investigators said the skateboarder was riding across the crosswalk at the intersection Choptank Road and Mountain View Road when the vehicle hit them.
Authorities said they are working with the Virginia Department of Transportation to improve pedestrian safety at that intersection.

"As a reminder, use caution at intersections, especially during school hours, and watch for pedestrians," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "With Halloween approaching, be mindful of children crossing roadways."
Across Virginia, pedestrian crashes are up in 2022. More than 120 pedestrians have been killed in Virginia roadways so far this year, a 34 percent increase from this time last year.
