Icy Rain: Winter Weather Advisory Extended For Northern Virginia

STERLING, VA—The National Weather Service's area headquarters in Sterling has extended its winter weather advisory until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch expected. The highest accumulations will be in the northern and western suburbs of DC.

Most paved surfaces will be wet and ice accretion will be mainly confined to elevated surfaces. Be prepared for reduced visibility at times. Slow down and use caution while driving.

Wednesday: Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 2pm. High near 42. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. South wind 3 to 8 mph.
