Snow Looms: Northern Virginia Weather

STERLING, VA—Now that the ferocious wind storm and its remnants finally have departed the area, snow once again enters the picture in the Northern Virginia area—and sooner rather than later. That's the word from the National Weather Service outlet in Sterling as well as other forecasters.

We're talking an inch or so of the white stuff, a number that could rise or fall depending on ever-shifting conditions. From the folks at WRC's Channel 4: "The time frame to watch most closely will be from late Tuesday night until late Wednesday morning."

The threat nonetheless continues through Wednesday night, followed by a spate of sunny and pleasant conditions Thursday and Friday. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31. North wind 3 to 8 mph.

Tuesday: A chance of rain after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday Night: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 35. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday: Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 46. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday Night: A slight chance of rain before 1am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
