WASHINGTON, DC — The snow totals are in for Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia from the National Weather Service, which received unofficial data from its employees as well as emergency management personnel, trained spotters and media. At the end of the day, Woolsey in Prince William County reported the highest accumulation in the Washington area; 5 inches of snow was measured there, according to the weather service. There was also a report of 4.5 inches in Ashburn and 4 inches of snow at Dulles Airport.
Temperatures were expected to dip below freezing overnight, and weather officials warned of the possibility of ice, particularly around parking lots, sidewalks, bridges, overpasses and elevated roads.
Drivers were advised to slow down and give themselves extra time.
During Saturday's snowfall, three airports in the region set records for accumulation, according to the National Weather Service: BWI reported 2.8 inches, Dulles had 4 inches and Reagan measured 2 inches of snow, beating the records for snowfall set in those places on Dec. 9 in 2005, officials said..
