Soccer Massacre at the Battleground

UMW women net eight goals in lopsided win over NC Wesleyan.

The University of Mary Washington Women's soccer team improved to 5-1-1 Tuesday, and the outcome was never really in doubt.

Hosting NC Wesleyan in a non-conference match, the Eagles poured on the offense, winning by the final score of 8-0.

The first half saw Mary Washington dominate possession, but only come away with two goals. Amy Olson scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 13th minute, finding the back of the net on an assist from Erin Reynolds. Freshman defender Jenna Abraham (pictured right) gave UMW a 2-0 advantage with her left-footed strike from just inside the 18'.

The Eagles scored six more in the second 45 minutes. Olson netted two more, good for a hat trick on the day. Sophomore Tina Rader scored a pair of second-half goals, to complement Karen Strat and Maggie Willis, who both found the back of the net.

UMW (5-1-1, 0-1 CAC) will travel to Wesley for a CAC matchup Saturday, September 24th.
