Spencer Devon Brewing Building a Deck, With Help, in Fredericksburg

The Virginia Tourism Growth Fund approved a $27,000 grant matched by the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Spencer Devon Brewing wanted to expand, and so it will — with help from the city and the state.

The restaurant-brew pub, 106 George Street, received a $27,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Growth Fund that was matched by the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority to build a 2,000 square foot beer deck on a vacant lot at 823 Caroline Street.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe pushed for the creation of the Virginia Tourism Growth Fund earlier this year to promote tourism in the state.

"With 175 breweries, craft beer is a booming business in Virginia and a major driver for tourism and economic development for all regions in the Commonwealth," he said. "The new dining and event space at Spencer Devon Brewery is an innovative use of vacant real estate in a prime location, and will help to attract travelers and residents alike looking for an authentic Virginia craft beer experience in the City of Fredericksburg.

"This will be a wonderful addition to the Central Business District of Fredericksburg and I congratulate Spencer Devon Brewing and the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority on this expansion."
