Spotsylvania Cancels Fourth of July Events Due To Coronavirus

Fourth of July festivities in have been canceled this year, due to restrictions in place for Phase 1 of the state's reopening plan.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA – Fourth of July festivities in Spotsylvania County have been canceled this year, due to restrictions in place for Phase 1 of the state's reopening plan.

The county announced the cancelation of the Stars & Stripes Spectacular Wednesday, citing the coronavirus public health crisis and safety of the community. The celebration is held each year on the Saturday before the Fourth of July. The even typically draws 25,000 to 30,000 people.

Governor Northam's Forward Virginia reopening plan Phase 1 limits social gatherings to no more than 10. Gatherings of no more than 50 will be allowed in Phase 2. There has not been an announcement about when the state will enter Phase 2.
