Spotsylvania Weighs Plan to Build Minor League Baseball Stadium: Media Report

Minor league baseball could be coming to Spotsylvania County, under a proposal that the Board of Supervisors plans to discuss next week.

The Free Lance-Star reported Wednesday that the supervisors are weighing a plan to borrow up to $43 million to build a minor league stadium in the Southpoint II shopping center. The stadium would be built without raising taxes on current residents and businesses.
A Maryland baseball team, the Hagerstown Suns, has expressed interest in moving to the Fredericksburg area, according to the Free Lance-Star. The Suns are a Class A affilitate of the Washington Nationals.

The supervisors voted 5-1 on Tuesday night to hold a special public meeting on the stadium proposal at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, May 5, at the Holbert Building, at 9104 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania.
