FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Spotsylvania man won a $500,000 prize from the Virginia Lottery thanks to a ticket he purchased in Fredericksburg.

Virginia Lottery officials said Spotsylvania's Zion Johnson won the top prize in the Mega Money Multiplier game.

Johnson bought the lucky ticket at the 7-Eleven at 10100 Southpoint Parkway in Fredericksburg.

The Mega Money Multiplier game is a scratcher that features prizes ranging from $20 to $500,000. Johnson was the first to claim one of the game's three top prizes.

Lottery officials said the odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 816,000. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 6.86.

Profits from the Virginia Lottery support schools across the state. In the 2023 fiscal year, Spotsylvania County received $14.6 million in lottery funds. Across Virginia, the lottery accounts for about 10 percent of the state's K-12 budgets.
