Spotsylvania Supervisor Faces Renewed Scrutiny Over X Posts: Report

A Spotsylvania supervisor continued posting remarks about women and minorities after promising residents he would "do better."

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — Supervisor Drew Mullins is continuing to post remarks about women and minorities on social media after apologizing to residents and promising to “do better,” the Fredericksburg Free Press reported.

Mullins, who represents the Courtland District, previously described his X account as a parody and made it private after residents criticized earlier posts.

Since his Sept. 22 apology, he has posted comments about a sexual assault complainant, women, HIV deaths in Kenya and a person of Indian heritage, according to the Free Press. Mullins did not respond to the publication’s request for comment.

The county said the issue falls outside its purview and that the Board of Supervisors is responsible for enforcing its own ethics code. The code calls for members to show respect, avoid divisive conduct and maintain public trust. Possible sanctions include a reprimand, formal censure, loss of seniority, removal from committee assignments or budget restrictions.

Board Chair Lori Hayes said she had not received direction from a majority of supervisors to take further action. Berkeley District Supervisor David Goosman said the newer posts concerned him and that he planned to discuss the matter with Mullins and the county attorney.
