Spotsylvania Teacher Accused Of Hitting Student, 6, With Shoe: Police

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A former Spotsylvania County teacher is facing charges after authorities said she hit a 6-year-old student with a shoe.

Gloria Joan Jackson, 73, of Spotsylvania, was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery following the incident, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

According to authorities, the department was made aware of the alleged assault in April after it occurred at Cedar Forest Elementary School. Authorities said that during the investigation, they obtained a video showing Jackson — a behavioral interventionist employee — striking a student with a shoe.

The child was not injured, authorities said.

School officials placed Jackson on leave immediately following the incident. She has since been fired, police said.

Jackson is scheduled to appear in court on July 10.
